What is a professional license?

A professional license is a type of permit issued by the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) to any individual or party who wishes to practice any profession legally using their skills to earn money or gain profit.

Unlike commercial and industrial licenses, a professional license allows 100% for foreign investors as long as they appoint a UAE national as a local service agent to look after all the legalities and formalities required to operate the business. Another condition is that the agent must not directly involve the business aside from collecting their fee. Local agents are also not allowed to represent the business or participate in managing any of the business' profitable activities.
